A little bit about

Dayo

Raised with the distinct belief that there is power in symbol, archetype, and story, I am a cis-gendered, queer, White woman of Bosnian/Serbian descent who has spent my career disrupting the status quo in the name of creating a more equitable society. Deeply rooted in performance, Improvised Theatre, Acting, Producing, and Directing, I found the intersection where performance meets politics in studying the work of Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed. For decades, I have been incorporating theatre for social change into my curriculum, whether I’m teaching a theatrical technique or Anti-Racism concepts to government employees. My ability to model vulnerability in front of large groups has led me to individualized coaching to more deeply get my clients to a transformed status as active advocates and allies in the fight for racial equity and social justice. The one thing that transforms us all is Story, the great teacher.

As a performer turned bureaucrat, I found a niche in disrupting long-held beliefs, patterns, and policies that furthered inequity and harm throughout my career. The polite word for this work is Innovation. Innovation is Creation and Disruption churned through a rigorous process of analysis, resource allocation, change management, and trust. My background in managing a successful theatre company that generated work in a non-hierarchical environment has given me an edge in the business world, particularly where racial equity is concerned. My particular skill set allows me to get a diverse group into a room to build a community and create/generate solutions to vast problems affecting thousands of people. What would it mean to your company if you could cut through the social dynamics to get deeply into innovation territory while knowing you were prioritizing a better society for your employees and clients? Well, let’s find out together!

My approach is centered on relationship building. My motto is, “join my wolfpack,” because I truly believe that the Stark Family (thanks to George R.R. Martin) said it right, “the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.” Humanity has survived only because of our ability to be in society with one another. In the United States, we have lost this critical value in the horrific quagmire that is White Supremacy Culture. We truly believe that the individual who goes it alone is the one to admire, even though we all know that one individual never gets to success this way. I do not think I will succeed if you do not succeed and vice versa. As Lizzo says, “When I shine, everybody shines.” I want to know you, your team, your problems, your hopes, and your dreams. If I can’t help you get to your solution, I bet I know someone who can. I am here to help you get plugged into my vast Wolfpack network so we can move your story forward and help all your characters survive.

Testimonials

I had the immense pleasure of managing Dayo at the City of Seattle. She was an incredible team member who brought her authentic self to work every day and developed trusting relationships across our organization that helped propel our work forward. She was absolutely instrumental in our successful launch of nine new communities of practice aimed at tackling deep citywide human resources challenges. She is passionate, thoughtful, strategic, visionary, deeply committed to race and social justice, a whiz with technology and virtual collaboration, and a wonderfully supportive colleague to boot. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I would work with her again in a heartbeat. Any team that hires Dayo will be extremely lucky to have her talents.
